Music
Tewantin school's newest building improvement has been the
addition of a purpose built music block, which features large instruction and performance
areas, sound proof practice rooms and landscaped gardens.
The new facility has been a valuable addition to the
already impressive line up of musical resources and activities that exist in our
school.
These include:
- A thriving instrumental music program incorporating brass,
woodwind and percussion instruments and involving more than 30 children.
- A keyboard lab incorporating 15 keyboards enabling children
from all year levels to learn keyboard skills.
- Student singing and guitar groups offering free tuition to
children in these popular areas.
- Weekly musical and dramatic performances which are staged by
individual classes or groups of enthusiastic students and presented during school
assemblies in one of our 3 performance areas.
Technology
Tewantin State School has had an extensive involvement in
adapting technology to enhance learning of our students.
Computer technology is used throughout the school. As well
as having computers in many of the classrooms the school has two computer laboratories for
use of all students. To give students a comprehensive experience, each lab is
equipped with 15 PC's.
An inclusive curriculum for students throughout the school
has been developed to engage all students in developing their knowledge of computers and
how they can assist in their learning.
Special
Education Unit
The Tewantin Special Education Unit is staffed by
special education trained teachers and aides to cater for students with
disabilities. While the Unit is a stand alone facility containing the latest
equipment and resources to cater for the special needs of its students, the emphasis of
programs is to work towards the inclusion of special needs students into the regular
school program. Many special education students have daily programs where they work
in classes in the primary school then some time in the SEU for specialised
instruction.
Languages Other
Than English
Tewantin State School offers both Japanese and Italian
languages for our year 6 & 7 students. This enables our students to enrol
smoothly into the LOTE courses of our district High Schools, Sunshine Beach State High
School and Noosa District State High School.
The program involves immersing the students in all
aspects of Japanese and Italian culture ensuring a real appreciation of cultural differences
and an increased knowledge of languages including English grammar and the spoken
word.
Physical
Education
The Physical Education Program at Tewantin State
School is offered to all students from pre school to year 7. The program has been
developed to offer an exciting and fun program based on the physical abilities and
needs of our students. Extensive use is made of our swimming pool which is a unique
facility in the area.
Grandparents In
Friendship and Tutoring
One of the reasons Tewantin State School is seen as
such a caring environment is the extensive involvement of the community in the
school. The GIFT program involves grandparents working in classrooms to be friends
with students and assisting with their learning.
This program is a wonderful initiative that enhances
the lives of both our grandparents and our students.
